Exchange Rate and Tax Hit on Fuel Prices: Current Figures for July 24, 2026

Fluctuations in global markets and successive Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) hikes have triggered a new record wave in fuel prices, increasingly pressuring the cost of living for citizens. While volatility in foreign exchange rates pushes energy costs higher, pump prices in major cities, particularly Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, have shown a sharp rise.

Currency Volatility and Tax Burden Drive Prices Higher

The atmosphere of uncertainty in the economy and fluctuations in global commodity prices directly impact prices reflected at fuel stations. Combined effects of tax adjustments and currency hikes have confronted drivers with a significant increase in daily transportation and logistics costs.

Current Liter Prices in Major Cities

As of Friday, July 24, 2026, gasoline, diesel, and LPG prices in Turkey's three major cities are listed as follows:

  • Istanbul European Side: Gasoline per liter is set at 67.00 TL, Diesel per liter at 74.27 TL, and LPG per liter at 31.19 TL.
  • Istanbul Anatolian Side: Gasoline per liter is 66.85 TL, Diesel per liter is 74.12 TL, and LPG per liter is at 30.59 TL.
  • Ankara: In the capital, gasoline per liter is 67.97 TL, Diesel per liter is 75.39 TL, and LPG per liter stands at 31.29 TL.
  • Izmir: In the center of the Aegean region, gasoline per liter is 68.25 TL, Diesel per liter is 75.66 TL, and LPG per liter is 31.19 TL.
  • This rise in energy costs affects not only individual transportation but also logistics and production costs, creating upward pressure on core inflation. In the banking sector, the upward trend in credit card and personal loan usage indicates a shift in consumer cash flow management strategies; on the Fintech side, we once again see the importance of digital financial tools that allow users to analyze their spending habits during such volatile periods.
