Volatility in the fuel market is launching another attempt at a record high without allowing drivers a respite. Pressure from rising international product prices necessitates a new hike of 1.56 TL per liter of gasoline, effective from midnight on Monday. This development reinforces concerns that the fluctuation in the sector has not ended and costs are rising at an unsustainable pace.

Back-to-Back Hikes Drive 2.62 TL Surge in Days

According to information provided by fuel market expert Cahit Saraçoğlu, the sector is preparing for the second major price increase in succession. Calculations clearly reveal how tax mechanisms and product price increases are passed on to the consumer:

■Following the 1.06 TL hike late last night, expectations for a new increase have emerged.

■Of the expected 2.08 TL increase in product price, 0.52 TL will be covered under the tax mechanism.

■The remaining 1.56 TL will directly impact pump prices, driving up the cost per liter of gasoline.

■When these two hikes are calculated together, the total increase in gasoline prices will reach 2.62 TL in just three days.

Cost Table Impacting the Transportation Sector

The economic burden these price increases will create for consumers and their impact on transportation costs are already being calculated. In particular, intercity transport and logistics firms are discussing how these sudden increases will trigger operational expenses:

■Filling a standard 50-liter gasoline tank will cost approximately 131 TL more due solely to these two hikes.

■Recent fluctuations in international energy markets continue to directly affect fuel prices in Turkey.

■If the new increase is finalized, station signs will change once again at midnight on Monday.

This severe price movement deeply affects not only individual consumer budgets but the automotive and heavy industry ecosystem as well. The rapid rise in gasoline prices increases the total cost of ownership for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, potentially accelerating the psychological and economic transition to electric vehicles (EVs).
