BISAM: Hunger Line at 36,000 TL, Poverty Line at 119,000 TL - Turkey's Food Crisis Deepens

Turkey is experiencing a severe decline in living standards, as revealed by the latest Hunger and Poverty Report from the United Metal-Workers Class Research Center (BISAM). The report estimates that a four-person household needs a minimum of 36,324 TL per day to ensure basic nutrition, marking the hunger line. The poverty line, meanwhile, has risen to 119,330 TL. The report highlights that dairy and dairy products account for 35.7% of daily spending, followed by fruits and vegetables at 22.7%, and meat and eggs at 23.3%. The highest cost group is dairy products at 432.46 TL, followed by fruits and vegetables at 275.04 TL. Red meat, fish, and poultry are priced at 198.06 TL, while the increase in prices of solid and liquid fats and nuts has been a key driver of the rise in the hunger line. Price declines in cheese, meat, poultry, and fish groups have somewhat mitigated this increase. Turkey's food crisis is particularly affecting low-income families, threatening social stability.
