BIST 100 Faces the 13,800 Mark Test: Shadows of Fed Uncertainty and Data Agenda

Risk appetite in the Istanbul Stock Exchange dulled towards midday as the BIST 100 index retreated to 13,786.12 points with a 0.09% decline in the first half of the day, while investors adopted a cautious stance ahead of U.S. employment data, with trading volume reaching 91.2 billion lira.

Narrowing Range and Sectoral Divergence in the Index

■The index fluctuated within a limited range during the first half of the day, touching a low of 13,763.53 and a high of 13,956.18.

■The banking index stood out with a 0.50% gain, while the 0.52% drop in the holding index was among the factors pressuring the main index.

■On a sectoral basis, the highest return came from the forestry, paper, and printing sector with 2.94%, while the metal main industry posted the worst performance of the day with a 2.98% drop.

Global Uncertainty and Data-Driven Trajectory

■Uncertainties regarding the Federal Reserve's (Fed) future steps and delays in the negotiation process in the Middle East have deepened the search for direction in global markets.

■It is evident that investor focus is on the non-farm payrolls data to be announced today; the impact of this data on the interest rate path will be closely monitored.

■From a technical analysis perspective, the 13,700 and 13,600 levels are noted as strong support zones, while 13,900 and 14,000 points stand out as resistance points for upward movements.

According to our algo-trading models, the index is undergoing a consolidation process near the lower limits of the Ichimoku cloud (Kumo). The struggle to hold above the 13.800 Fibonacci correction level will be decisive for short-term momentum. However, the limited price action despite the increase in volume signals short-term fatigue in the currents.
