Bosch Launches Sample Production at First U.S. Semiconductor Plant Amid Supply Chain Push

German automotive supplier Bosch has initiated sample production at its first U.S. semiconductor facility, finalizing a $225 million agreement with the U.S. Commerce Department to bolster domestic manufacturing of silicon carbide chips. The Roseville, California plant, acquired from TSI Semiconductors in 2023 and retrofitted at a total cost of $2 billion, including federal funding, is set to commence commercial operations later this year.
Markets perceive Bosch's U.S. investment as a reflection of growing distrust in global supply chains. Rising demand for semiconductors in electric vehicles and AI-driven industries is pushing firms to prioritize strategic domestic production. Energy efficiency and technological sovereignty are intensifying the pressure to localize chip manufacturing within the U.S.
