Heart Attack Warning: The 'Frank' Sign and Risks for the Young

The recent heart attack of comedian Cem Yılmaz has brought the 'Frank' sign back into focus. Cardiologist Prof. Dr. Uğur Abbas Bal emphasized that this sign is primarily associated with aging and is rare in younger individuals. He clarified that the marking on the earlobe alone does not indicate a direct heart attack risk. However, Bal recommended cardiovascular checks for young people with the sign on both ears. The most distinctive symptom of a heart attack is chest pain. Bal noted that people with diabetes may experience altered pain perception and could suffer silent heart attacks. Key risk factors include age, smoking, hypertension, and diabetes. Bal stressed that everyone over 40 should undergo a heart check. Chest pain triggered by exertion, stress, or sadness should be taken seriously, and if it lasts longer than 20 minutes, immediate medical intervention is necessary. This highlights the importance of raising awareness about heart health, particularly among younger generations.
