Centene Boosts 2026 Profit Forecast on Cost Management Success
724FinanceBora Yalın
Centene has raised its annual profit and revenue forecasts after beating quarterly earnings estimates, as the health insurer tightened cost controls. The company's 89.6% second-quarter medical loss ratio was lower than last year's %93 and below analysts' estimates of %91.30. Improved pricing of Obamacare plans and risk-adjustment payments helped lower costs. Bernstein analyst Lance Wilkes called it 'meaningful progress in margin recovery.' The 2026 earnings forecast now stands above $4.80/share, up from previous guidance of $3.40. Revenue guidance was raised to $193.5 billion-$197.5 billion, from $187.5 billion-$191.5 billion. Centene's shares rose 2% after the announcement.
This turnaround suggests the health insurance sector is shifting into a risk-on phase. Investors will now focus on the pace of recovery in Medicaid and Marketplace for 2027 and beyond.
