Efficiency Leap Against Drought: Bayraktar-2000 Sets Records in Kırşehir

Following last year's record drought, a meteorological shift and strategic seed selection in Kırşehir have triggered an unexpected surge in agricultural productivity, establishing a critical data point for the regional economy.

From Drought to Abundance: The Kırşehir Yield Miracle

According to meteorological data, Kırşehir, which emerged from the driest period in 65 years, redefined its agricultural production capacity this year by receiving over 400 millimeters of rainfall per square meter in the first six months. Trial productions with the drought-resistant "Bayraktar-2000" variety at the application fields of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University (KAEÜ) Faculty of Agriculture clearly demonstrate the financial return of adaptation to climate change.
  • Yield figures reached up to 450 kilograms per decare, surpassing the regional average.
  • A 100% increase in yield compared to the previous year doubled the production function.
  • Production was carried out over a total area of 1,124 decare, utilizing this new seed variety on a 310 decare plot.
  • The total harvest expectation is projected to reach 140-150 tons.
  • Data-Driven Agricultural Transformation and Production Metrics

Led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil and Prof. Dr. Selahattin Çınar, the studies concretize the transformation of scientific data into agricultural income. According to the determinations of Assoc. Dr. Ramazan Ayrancı, the combination of a regular rainfall regime in April, May, and June with the correct seed selection created an ideal scenario for risk management.
  • Produce, which was around 220 kilograms per decare last year, rose to 440-450 kilograms this year.
  • While the average yield in the province is 350-370 kilograms, approximately 20-30% higher yield was achieved in the trial field.
  • It is aimed to minimize risks with similar adaptation strategies in barley and other cereals.
  • Markets should interpret this dataset as a signal that supply-side pressures on food inflation could be alleviating. Our historical regression models indicate that such volatility in precipitation data creates fluctuations in commodity prices, yet local adaptation strategies can reduce the risk premium. The proliferation of resilient variants like "Bayraktar-2000" renders the agricultural production function more elastic against external shocks.
