Fed's Rate Policy: Barr Watches for Inflation Easing Signs
Federal Reserve yöneticisi Michael Barr, Washington'da düzenlenen bir bankacılık forumunda, enflasyonun hala Fed'in 2% hedefine ulaşamadığı için 'geni

Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr expressed concern about 'broader price pressures' at a banking forum in Washington, stating that if inflation remains above the Fed's 2% target for nearly five and a half years, he would be prepared to support a rate hike. 'If trends in the data give me confidence that inflation is moderating toward 2%, then we can take more time to assess our policy stance,' he said. However, 'if inflation does not moderate sufficiently, we must act decisively to raise rates,' Barr added. He praised the economy's resilience in consumer spending but emphasized that inflation has been 'too high for over five years.' Latest inflation data showed headline prices up 3.7% over the past year, or 3.3% excluding food and energy. The Fed will review this data again next week. Barr's comments came amid rising Treasury yields, with the 10-year note reaching levels not seen since mid-2025. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks last week were widely interpreted as signaling a rate hike, possibly as soon as the next policy meeting. Barr supported the July decision to keep the benchmark funds rate between 3.5%-3.75%, but markets were pricing in a 66% chance of a hike this month.
Market reactions to Barr's remarks suggest a potential shift toward a more hawkish Fed stance. The ECB's rate path, Eurozone inflation, and global trade tensions with tariff policies will continue to influence Fed policy decisions, potentially leading to more aggressive expectations in the short term.
