MLB Legend Butch Huskey's Death: The Last Met to Wear No. 42 and Jackie Robinson's Legacy
Eski Boston Red Sox oyuncusu ve New York Mets efsanesi Butch Huskey, 54 yaşında hayatını kaybetti. Huskey, kariyerinin büyük kısmını Mets ile geçiren

Former Boston Red Sox and New York Mets legend Butch Huskey has passed away at 54. Huskey spent most of his career with the Mets, becoming a power hitter who hit a career-high 24 home runs in 1997. In 1999, he joined the Red Sox, helping a team that nearly ended an 86-year championship drought. However, Huskey's most significant legacy is his connection to No. 42. When MLB retired Jackie Robinson's number league-wide in 1997, Huskey was the last Mets player to wear it. "The number 42 meant a lot to me. Jackie Robinson's story inspired me to choose that number." he said. Huskey played for Mets, Mariners, Twins, and Rockies, finishing his career with 86 home runs, 336 RBI, and a .267 batting average. The cause of death was not disclosed. The Mets announced his passing on X, stating, "We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Met and the last to wear No. 42, Butch Huskey." Huskey's legacy will continue through his place in Mets history and his role in preserving Robinson's legacy.
