Child Protection Reform: Redesigning the Legal Process and Strengthening Inter-Institution Coordination

Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş presented an 18-point amendment to the Child Protection Law to the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The proposal aims to prevent children from being drawn into crime and improve the legal process. Göktaş emphasized that the commission's work will contribute to early detection mechanisms to minimize children's risks. The proposal includes measures to accelerate children's rehabilitation process and increase family accountability through directive interventions. Additionally, mandatory treatment for under-18 children with dependency issues and penal responsibility for families who fail to comply are included. This reform is seen as a critical step in reintegrating children into society and protecting the community.
