Türkiye is set to implement a 1.55 lira increase in the price of gasoline per liter, effective July 15, as the country continues to struggle with rising fuel prices. According to industry sources, this adjustment will push the price of gasoline from its current average of 31.50 lira to 33.05 lira. This move follows a year-long trend of rising fuel prices in 2024.
Fuel Price Increases in 2024 - January 2024: 30.80 lira - February 2024: 31.20 lira - March 2024: 31.50 lira - April 2024: 32.00 lira - May 2024: 32.50 lira - June 2024: 33.05 lira (expected) ### Complexities in the Energy Market - Low global oil prices - U.S. stabilization policies - Decreased imported oil purchases in Turkey - Ineffectiveness of the energy ministry's price cap mechanism > This price hike will further strain Turkey's energy budget and trigger a 1.5-2.5% decline in demand in the market. From a NIM (Net Interest Margin) and SYR (Capital Adequacy Ratio) perspective, banks will reflect this price increase as a 0.25-0.50% rise in credit pricing, while capital adequacy ratios will drop by 5-10%. Digital payment systems are expected to see a 15-20% increase post this hike, as rising fuel costs reduce consumer spending power.
