BoE Rate Decision: UK Economy and Energy Crisis Balancing Act
İngiltere Merkez Bankası (BoE) politika faizini yüzde 3,75 seviyesinde tutarken, küresel enerji krizi ve Orta Doğu çatışması nedeniyle enflasyonun iki
The Bank of England (BoE) kept its policy rate at 3.75%, while maintaining a cautious wait-and-see approach amid global energy crisis and Middle East tensions. The Monetary Policy Committee voted 6-3 to hold rates steady, with Chief Economist Huw Pill advocating for a quarter-point hike, which was rejected by the majority. BoE Governor Andrew Bailey warned that rising oil prices could push UK inflation to 4.5%, but predicted inflation would remain below 3% if conflicts are resolved early. The BoE noted that quantitative tightening effects are at reasonable levels, with new program decisions expected in September. Bailey stated that prolonged Middle East conflicts could necessitate tighter monetary policy, while peace would allow for easing. Investors priced in a 50% chance of a quarter-point hike at the September meeting, mirroring similar strategies by global central banks.
The BoE's decision reflects UK's sensitivity to energy shocks, while global central banks' coordination efforts are causing market volatility. This move may have implications for consumer credit limits and mortgage rates in the near term.
