Data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reveals that the country's economy has gained significant momentum in employment capacity, with the unemployment rate falling sharper than expected to 7.6% in June. This development sends strong signals that a positive tunnel is nearing its end for the entire manufacturing sector, particularly automotive and heavy industry, alongside the potential to add new workforce to the production line.
Industrial Employment Engine Strengthens
Seasonally adjusted data confirms that the number of unemployed people decreased by 168,000 to 2 million 688 thousand, while the number of employed people increased by 227,000 to reach 32 million 733 thousand. This increase is not merely a quantitative growth but a reflection of accelerating economic activity.Mobilization in Female and Youth Labor Force
One of the most striking dynamics in the report is the increase in female employment surpassing that of male employment. Female employment increased by 177,000 people, while the increase in male employment remained at 50,000. This data indicates that the need for female labor in industry's revolutionary technologies and production lines is increasing, and this demand is being met. This data sends a dual signal to the automotive industry. On one hand, the decline in the unemployment rate to 7.6% indicates income stability supporting domestic automotive demand; on the other, the rise in industrial employment signals an increase in our production capacity. The expansion in the supply of qualified technical labor, crucial for the electric vehicle (EV) transition, could positively impact supply chain efficiency. However, the idle labor rate remaining at 28.8% suggests there is still potential production reserve, highlighting the critical importance of training programs to activate this workforce.
