IndyCar’s 2027 ‘The Game’ Redraws the Lines of Next-Gen Racing Simulation

IndyCar and iRacing Studios have announced that ‘INDYCAR Racing The Game’, the official standalone video game for the NTT IndyCar Series, will launch in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles, and PC via Steam. This marks the first standalone IndyCar game in over two decades, promising an ‘ultra-realistic open-wheel racing experience’ leveraging iRacing’s industry-leading simulation expertise. iRacing President Tony Gardner emphasized the project’s goal to create an experience ‘worthy of the IndyCar name,’ while IndyCar CMO Alex Damron highlighted its potential to bring the sport’s ‘energy and drama’ to a new generation. The game will feature iconic tracks like Indianapolis Motor Speedway and street circuits, aligning with IndyCar’s digital transformation strategy.
Markets view this as a strategic move to solidify IndyCar’s digital footprint, particularly among younger demographics. However, the game’s success will hinge on its simulation fidelity and competitive landscape at launch. In essence, IndyCar’s 2027 ‘The Game’ aims to redefine racing simulation benchmarks.
