Ionic Digital: $2.75 Billion Valuation at Nasdaq Debut and AI Shift
Ionic Digital, formed in January 2024 through Celsius Network's bankruptcy restructuring, acquired most of Celsius Mining's assets including Bitcoin (BTC) mining equipment and infrastructure, approximately $195 million in cash, and 540 BTC valued at $35 million at the time. The company terminated a four-year management agreement with Hut 8 in 2024 and took direct control of its facilities, retaining a minority stake for Hut 8. Ionic has shifted its power portfolio toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Its 234-megawatt Cedarvale facility in West Texas is under a 10-year triple-net lease with AI cloud provider Nscale, carrying approximately $2 billion in contracted revenue. A February amendment could increase the total to $2.6 billion. The company highlighted its ability to support 'top players in AI and high-power computing' while generating revenue independently of Bitcoin mining. Mining operations continue; four facilities in Midland, Texas, produced just under 25 BTC in May, and the company lists 2,861 BTC on its balance sheet. Production is expected to decline as more infrastructure is reassigned to AI workloads. The Nasdaq debut provides Celsius creditors with a public market for shares distributed through the reorganization, positioning Ionic alongside miners leveraging powered land and data centers to pursue long-term AI contracts. The company is currently trading at $62.90 USD per share.
This transaction reflects the crypto market's growing interest in AI infrastructure while signaling the future of Bitcoin mining. Ionic's success will demonstrate how investors are valuing the transition from mining to AI.
