Vietnam's New Steps for Small and Medium Enterprises

Vietnam has taken new steps to support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) alongside its focus on larger conglomerates in recent years. The country's financial institutions have unveiled a comprehensive strategy to enhance SMEs' access to credit and promote digital transformation. This initiative is critical given Vietnam's 2023 data, which shows approximately 3 million SMEs. As part of the strategy, the Vietnam National Bank (VNB) plans to develop a new credit scoring system to facilitate SME lending. Additionally, a digital banking framework is being prepared to improve SMEs' access to financial services through digital platforms. These developments are seen as a significant step for Vietnam to enhance SMEs' global competitiveness and sustain economic growth.

Vietnam's strategy could help SMEs gain a stronger position in global markets, contributing to increased export volumes and lower unemployment rates. It will also strengthen Vietnam's competitiveness against other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
