LSE's Night Market: London Eyes 24/7 Exchange Launch in 2027

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is set to launch a night-time trading venue in the first half of 2027, marking a strategic move amid growing competition from crypto markets and tokenized equity platforms. The new market will operate separately from the main exchange, running from 17:00 to 07:50 London time and initially focusing on exchange-traded products tracking the UK and US stock markets. The main market will continue under standard hours (08:00-16:30). LSE CEO Julia Hoggett told Financial Times that London's timezone will attract retail traders seeking exposure to both UK and global assets. This development reflects traditional exchanges' efforts to enhance flexibility in the digital age. Markets view this as a step toward greater competitiveness against digital platforms.
The shift highlights London's ambition to remain a global financial hub, but the real test will be adoption rates among retail investors and institutional players.
