The Russian ruble suffered a %1.9 decline against the US dollar on Wednesday, reaching its first 80 level since 3 April. The currency has weakened by %14 since 20 May and also depreciated %1 against the Chinese yuan. Analysts attribute the ruble’s decline to seasonal tax payment deadlines and fuel shortages due to Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries. Rising oil prices, Russia’s key export commodity, further threaten its foreign reserves. Meanwhile, Fed rate hike concerns have suppressed chip stocks and risk appetite, dragging European markets lower. Bitcoin remains above $64,000. Albayrak Construction Materials began trading on Yıldız Bourse.
The ruble’s sharp short-term depreciation signals intensified pressure on Russian exporters to preserve foreign exchange reserves. This move creates a volatile environment for investors, requiring careful assessment of global macroeconomic conditions and energy price dynamics.
