A fan blade detached from a Ryanair flight’s engine shortly after takeoff on July 10, shattering a window and causing Serbian entrepreneur Ljubisa Karović to be partially sucked out of the aircraft. Sitting in seat 11F, Karović’s head and right arm were drawn through the broken window, but fellow passengers intervened to prevent him from being fully ejected. The 61-year-old later reported memory loss and pain in his head and neck. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) preliminary report indicated engine vibrations and a loud bang during the flight, leading to an emergency descent to Thessaloniki Airport. Ryanair has deferred comments until the final investigation report is published. Boeing and CFM are assisting in the probe. This incident follows FAA directives in 2025 mandating engine cover reinforcements on Boeing 737s. Investigators will examine maintenance procedures and prior bird strikes. How will markets react to this safety incident? The aviation industry and Ryanair’s future protocols will be closely monitored.
