Record Surge in Transport Spending: 41.5 Billion Lira Burned in Six Months

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's financial report for 2026 reveals that Turkey continues its infrastructure revolution at full speed, with a massive allocation of 41.5 billion lira spent in the first half of the year. While this figure stood at 34.3 billion lira in the same period last year, the momentum in public investments is clearly visible this year.

Railways Absorb the Lion's Share of the Budget

Spending data clearly demonstrates the state's priorities, proving that railway investments remain central to this strategy. Key figures highlighting the sectoral distribution include:

■Of the 114 billion lira allocated for the full year for railways, 26.8 billion lira was utilized in the first six months.

■The fact that this item constitutes the bulk of total expenditures demonstrates the materialization of the strategy to reduce logistics costs on the investment side.

■While total usage in the same period last year remained at 34.3 billion lira, the increase this year indicates that the wind is blowing entirely from the railways.

Urban Transit and Telecoms See Record Growth

Alongside railways, a serious momentum has been achieved in the utilization of appropriations for urban transportation and the telecommunications sector. The spending rate in telecommunications, in particular, gives a critical signal regarding budget discipline and efficiency:

■11.5 billion lira of the 25 billion lira allocated for urban and intercity transportation projects was transferred between January and June.

■In maritime investments, 1.1 billion lira of the 4.5 billion lira allocation was realized, while 569.7 million lira was spent on aviation investment projects.

■The telecommunications sector stands out with a 72.7% realization rate; 273.4 million lira of the 376 million lira allocation was consumed in just six months.

Analysis by Seda Çetin: HFT algorithms are converting this increase in public spending into instant volume surges, particularly in construction and industrial indices. However, this aggressive fiscal spending policy reinforces pricing expectations that inflationary pressures will not subside in the short term and that expectations for rate cuts in the swap markets will be postponed.
