Yılmaz Declares War on Illegal Betting: The Digital Severance of Black Money Infiltrating the Financial System
Cumhurbaşkanı Yardımcısı Cevdet Yılmaz başkanlığında, Hazine ve Maliye Bakanı Mehmet Şimşek ile İçişleri Bakanı Mustafa Çiftçi'nin de aralarında bulun

In a critical meeting chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, with the attendance of key figures including Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek and Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi, a historic turning point for Turkey's financial security was emphasized at the 'Illegal Virtual Betting and Gambling Action Plan' meeting held at the Presidential Complex. Yılmaz declared that illegal betting and gambling have evolved from a mere security issue into a multi-dimensional security threat directly endangering the national economy through money laundering and the financing of organized crime, announcing that a massive operational capacity has been achieved under the Action Plan that went into effect on November 1, 2025.
Financial Shield Against Digital Networks of Black Money
The efforts to sterilize the financial system against illicit gains and dry up illegal flows are subject to strict audits by MASAK every two months, while the measures taken have begun to yield concrete results. The government is targeting not just individual accounts but the organized financial structures behind these activities, aiming to break the economic backbone of crime syndicates with a strategic move.
Zero Tolerance in Telecommunications and Ad Traffic
Yılmaz announced that a cleanup operation has been launched in the digital ecosystem, particularly to protect children and youth, and that bulk SMS applications used to redirect to illegal sites and foreign-linked message traffic of unknown origin have been interrupted by technological barriers. These measures mean effectively blocking the marketing and recruiting channels of criminal organizations.
Next-Gen Surveillance Powered by AI
One of the most critical agenda items of the meeting was the equipping of technological infrastructure with artificial intelligence. Given the ability of illegal platforms to change addresses and infrastructure in a short time, it was noted that current detection methods might be insufficient, leading to the determination of a new roadmap.
Savaş Yıldırım: This meeting is the most concrete proof of the paradigm shift in Turkey's financial security understanding. We are no longer dealing only with police measures but establishing a 'cyber-financial' defense mechanism where data analytics, artificial intelligence, and financial intelligence are integrated. The audit of rental accounts and mobile lines has the potential to be one of the toughest regulations in the fight against money laundering (AML) globally. For investors, this should be read as a positive step indicating a reduction in regulatory risks and an increase in market transparency.
