Under the new rules, new channels must log 8,000 qualified watch hours in the past year or achieve 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days—both exactly twice the previous requirements of 4,000 hours and 10 million Shorts views.

Shorts Revenue Pool: 10 Million View Threshold

To earn from Shorts, creators must maintain 10 million Shorts views over a rolling 90‑day window. Channels falling below this bar will continue earning from long‑form content while Shorts revenue is paused until the threshold is met again.

Premium Lite Rollout and Revenue Share

YouTube is extending its Premium Lite subscription to every market where YouTube Premium is available. Subscription revenue is split based on watch time and views: 55% to long‑form video creators and 45% to Shorts creators.
