Volkswagen (VW) reduced its 2026 sales outlook by 3%, citing the 'extremely challenging' global auto industry environment. Second-quarter results showed group sales rose 2%, while vehicle sales fell 9.7%. Operating profit (EBIT) dropped 9.5%, with operating margin declining to 4.2%. China saw a 36.6% decline, while US tariffs and increased competition were cited as key headwinds. Porsche and Traton performed well, but the core VW-Škoda-Cupra brand saw a 10% drop. CEO Oliver Blume noted 'battling headwinds in the billions.' > The 20% decline in China and US-driven competition have led VW to expect a 3% decline in 2026, potentially reshaping European automakers' strategies.
