Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls: A Region Revitalized Through Tourism
Yahyalı'nın Kapuzbaşı ve Büyükçakır mahalleleri, Aladağlar'ın buzullarından beslenen şelaleleriyle turizm potansiyeline dönüşüyor. Bölge halkı, tarıma
Yahyalı's Kapuzbaşı and Büyükçakır villages are transforming their tourism potential thanks to the waterfalls fed by the Aladağlar glaciers. The local population has shifted from agriculture to hospitality, opening hotels, restaurants, and inns on land that is not suitable for farming. The region aims for 1.5 million visitors in the 2026 tourism season, with 30 inns and 15 restaurants already in operation. Local specialties like grilled Alabalık and weaving are attracting tourists. The villagers, despite the challenging geography of the canyon, are thriving on tourism. During winter, they engage in construction, while in summer, they serve tourists through hospitality services. They also offer locally grown figs, pomegranates, and clementines. Hotel operator Ahmet Apaydın has been running a 14-room facility since 2013. Mehmet Mil, who started the tourism business in 1994, is also benefiting from the increased visitor numbers. Ali Baştürk emphasizes the region's unique landscapes and is looking to capitalize on its tourism potential. This development is not only boosting the local economy but also improving the quality of life for the villagers. The example of Yahyalı serves as an inspiration for other regions in Turkey to embrace tourism as a viable economic strategy. The country's tourism sector could see further growth with the support of such local initiatives.
