Germany-based European Economic Research Centre (ZEW) has released its July results for the ZEW Economic Confidence Index, showing a significant improvement in corporate investor expectations. The ZEW Index rose from 10.5 to 26.3 points, while the Current Situation Index increased to 77.6 points. This indicates ongoing improvement in the German economy due to reforms. However, uncertainty surrounding oil prices due to the Iran crisis continues to negatively impact expectations. The automotive sector saw a sharp decline, with the index dropping from -11.3 to -46.6 points in July. Meanwhile, stable growth was observed in machinery, chemicals, and metal sectors. Confidence in the Eurozone economy also rose to 23.4 points, while the assessment of the current situation improved to -37.7 points. ZEW Chairman Prof. Dr. Achim Wambach noted that growth is continuing in export sectors as well as domestic demand, while emphasizing that the Iran crisis remains a significant factor affecting German economic recovery.
German markets are expected to quickly process the economic improvement signals from the ZEW data, particularly the impact of the automotive sector's decline on financial markets. The uncertainty surrounding oil prices due to the Iran crisis could further increase short-term expectations for interest rate cuts.
