Lifeline for Ayder Economy: Çamlıhemşin Tunnel Promises 772 Million Lira in Savings
Bölgesel kalkınma ve lojistik verimlilik adına atılan kritik adımlar kapsamında, Karadeniz'in turizm ve ticaret ağını güçlendirecek Çamlıhemşin Tüneli

In a critical move towards regional development and logistical efficiency, the Çamlıhemşin Tunnel—set to bolster the tourism and trade network of the Black Sea region—will officially open for service on Monday, August 17. According to statements from Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the 36.5-kilometer corridor stretching from the Pazar-Ardeşen junction to Ayder Plateau aims to trigger the region's economic potential.
Engineering a New Era for Black Sea Logistics
Prioritized within the investment program, the project seeks to minimize the economic costs of physical barriers. The completed section features a tunnel network totaling 3,670 meters, including the 955-meter Çamlıhemşin, 2,265-meter Hala, and 450-meter Hala-2 tunnels, alongside five distinct bridges including the Fırtına and Hala creek crossings.
Calculating the 772 Million Lira Annual Dividend
The macroeconomic implications of infrastructure investments extend beyond mere convenience, translating directly into cost optimization. Minister Uraloğlu notes that upon the road's completion, travel time will decrease from 55 minutes to 35 minutes, and this acceleration, along with the shortened distance (1.5 km), will have a tangible financial counterpart.
From the perspective of a public financing and fiscal policy expert, the structural role of such infrastructure investments in rectifying inter-regional income disparities is indisputable. However, it is imperative for fiscal sustainability that the projected 772 million lira in savings be netted against the project's capital expenditure (CAPEX) and future operational expenses (OPEX). Increasing the commercial volume of the region, led by Ayder, and expanding the tax base will be the critical variables determining the rate of return on this massive investment.
