A critical infrastructure investment aimed at boosting the Black Sea's logistics capacity and regional tourism revenues has been officially announced by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The most strategic leg of the 36.5 kilometer route extending from the Pazar-Ardeşen junction to Ayder Plateau, the Çamlıhemşin Tunnel Passage, will enter service on August 17.
772 Million Lira Savings in Logistics Efficiency
The investment is calculated not only to provide transportation ease but also to generate tangible macroeconomic outputs. According to data provided by Minister Uraloğlu, the project will deliver the following contributions to the regional economy:Engineering and Capacity Increase
The structures built within the scope of the project were completed to modern standards despite the region's difficult terrain conditions. Technical data of the route, where capacity was increased with divided roads and climbing lanes, is as follows:Expert Note: The impact of such infrastructure investments on regional GDP is not limited to spending during the construction phase; a 36% reduction in travel time (from 55 to 35 minutes) in logistics costs acts as a structural reform that directly increases the volumetric size of regional trade through marginal cost advantages. The increase in accessibility of tourism potential will create a multiplier effect above these figures.
