The volatility in tobacco prices continues as market conditions reshape rapidly. Following steps taken by other major producers, Imperial Tobacco has updated retail prices, reflecting the general cost increase in the sector.
New Level in Market Dynamics
According to the new price list shared by Erol Dündar, President of the Tobacco Sellers' Aid Association, the lower limit within the company's product group was raised. Accordingly, the sale price of the cheapest cigarette in the Imperial Tobacco group became 110 TL, while the price of the most expensive product in the group reached the 130 TL level. This update reveals how cumulative price increases in tobacco products are changing the established order in the sector.Imperial Tobacco's Updated Price List
The hikes applied to the company's products in different segments within the scope of the new list are as follows:These price adjustments in the retail sector serve as a tangible indicator of how deep inflationary pressures have become. As a Director of Commercial Loans, I observe how the working capital needs of sales points at the SME scale, particularly tobacco sellers, gain upward momentum with such cost increases. Price hikes in consumer goods can initiate a new repricing process in the markets regarding how long the central bank will maintain its tight monetary policy stance. This situation represents the macro-level reflection of steps taken to curb commercial loan costs and curb individual spending.
