Orta Doğu'daki askeri hareketlilik ve petrol tedarik hatlarına yönelik endişeler, küresel finans piyasalarında risk iştahını baskılamaya devam ederken

Military movements in the Middle East and concerns over oil supply chains continue to suppress risk appetite in global financial markets, with Borsa Istanbul also experiencing turbulent times. Following geopolitical developments over the weekend, the global sell-off pushed the BIST 100 index down to 14,070 points. Increased institutional orders and rising risk premiums accelerated capital outflows from emerging market assets, including Turkey.
May Current Account Data and Sectoral Divergences
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) released May's current account data showing a deficit of $1.459 billion, exceeding market expectations. Excluding gold and energy, the core current account deficit of $3.626 billion highlighted macroeconomic instability and triggered sharp sectoral divergences in the stock market. While the chemical and energy sectors were directly impacted by rising oil prices, transportation and aviation stocks faced significant declines due to security concerns and increased insurance costs.Holiday-Driven Trading Schedule Adjustments
Upcoming public holidays led to adjustments in settlement dates and clearing periods at Borsa Istanbul. Official announcements via the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) noted that these changes heightened the incentive for short-term and leveraged investors to shift into cash. Foreign custody banks also adjusted positions, concentrating trading volumes in select stocks. The current geopolitical pressure in market dynamics is directly affecting sectors heavily dependent on external factors, such as energy and transportation. The CBRT's current account figures further underscore the risks associated with the external balance sheet. From a long-term perspective, while these downturns may present 'opportunities for pullback buying,' short-term liquidity constraints and testing of technical support levels create a critical outlook for investors.
