Institutional Siege of MiCA: BNY Mellon Opens European Crypto Gates
Avrupa Menkul Kıymetler ve Piyasalar Kurumu (**ESMA**), kripto varlık hizmet sağlayıcıları (**CASP**) için oluşturulan MiCA siciline **15** yeni kurul

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has crossed another critical threshold in the institutional integration of digital assets by adding 15 new crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) to the MiCA register. The most striking addition in this update is BNY SA/NV, the Belgian subsidiary of the US financial giant BNY Mellon.
Europe's Digital Asset Fortress Expands
Following the third update since the July transitional deadline, the total number of licensed crypto-asset service providers under the MiCA framework has risen to 309. This move by the regulator tightens oversight of the crypto ecosystem within the European Union while simultaneously legalizing the entry path for institutional capital.
Banking Giants and Crypto Natives Under One Roof
The latest entries prove that the boundaries between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) are blurring. The list includes not only banking institutions but also digital platforms shaping the sector:
The Strict Regulatory Grip: Risks for Small Players
While the unified rule set introduced by MiCA is credited with bringing discipline to the market, compliance costs have become a point of serious contention. Gate Europe CEO Giovanni Cunti warns that the cost of maintaining a license and the required compliance resources could push smaller firms out of the market. This suggests that the European crypto market may evolve into a structure dominated solely by large capital groups over time.
This phased expansion of MiCA is not merely a 'licensing' process; it is the growing pain of institutionalizing liquidity pools. The entry of a custody giant like BNY Mellon will boost institutional risk appetite and make asset transfers across Layer-2 solutions more secure. However, rising compliance costs are pushing the 'permissionless' nature of DeFi toward 'permissioned' institutional pools. While this may trigger an increase in TVL in the long run, it risks slowing down the pace of grassroots innovation.
