Brent Crude Tests $85 Resistance Amid Geopolitical Friction and OPEC+ Supply Calculus
Küresel enerji piyasalarında gözler Orta Doğu'daki jeopolitik riskler ve arz güvenliğine çevrilirken, Brent petrolün varil fiyatı uluslararası vadeli

Global energy markets remain on high alert as geopolitical risks in the Middle East and supply security concerns push Brent crude prices back on an upward trajectory, reaching $84.85 per barrel in international futures markets. After climbing to $84.66 yesterday and closing at $83.77, October Brent crude futures recovered losses today, rising 1.29 percent as of 09:30 GMT. Concurrently, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for September delivery stabilized at $80.83 per barrel.
Hormuz Strait Vulnerabilities and the Washington-Tehran Diplomatic Gridlock
Despite ongoing peace negotiations in the Middle East, the failure to secure a permanent truce and persistent security threats to commercial shipping continue to fuel upward pressure on crude prices. US President Donald Trump stated in the Oval Office that talks with Tehran have resumed, but the lack of concrete outcomes from negotiations involving Gulf nations keeps supply disruption fears alive.
OPEC+ Calibrates Supply with Gradual Production Hikes
The primary headwind capping further price gains remains the production strategy of the OPEC+ alliance. During an online meeting featuring Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, member states reaffirmed their commitment to market stability by agreeing to a phased supply increase starting in September.
From a technical standpoint, Brent crude's $85.02 level represents a vital resistance threshold intersecting with Fibonacci retracement levels and the upper boundary of the Ichimoku cloud. A sustained weekly close above this level is highly likely to trigger buy signals in quantitative algorithmic trading models, potentially driving prices toward $87.20. On the downside, support at $84.34 is reinforced by the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA). For equity strategists, this volatility remains a double-edged sword; while it supports energy producers, it presents near-term margin pressure for the aviation and petrochemical sectors on the BIST 100.
