Elon Musk’s X Settles Advertiser Dispute: Brand Safety Clash Resolved
Elon Musk’un X (eski Twitter) ile Dünya Reklamcıları Federasyonu (WFA) arasında çok yıllık yasal mücadelenin sona erdiği açıklanmıştır. İki taraf, X’i

Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has reached a settlement with the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), ending a multi-year legal battle. The two parties have agreed to end X’s efforts to hold advertisers legally responsible for pulling spending due to brand safety concerns. X sued the WFA in 2024, alleging a ‘systematic illegal boycott’ after advertising revenue declined following Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the platform in 2022. Companies like Mars, CVS Health, Shell, and Lego were accused of reducing spending due to guidelines from WFA’s Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM). Advertisers rejected the claims, arguing brands have the freedom to decide where to spend their advertising dollars. A federal court dismissed the lawsuit in March, ruling X failed to demonstrate harm under federal competition laws. WFA reaffirmed its commitment to free speech, announcing the discontinuation of GARM in August 2024 and pledging not to restart it. Both sides now align on brand safety innovation.
This settlement could reshape the relationship between social media platforms and advertisers. X’s content moderation changes have sparked ongoing debates about platform accountability, prompting both sides to reassess their strategies. Markets may now reassess the economic value of social media engagement in light of these developments.
