Brussels Warns TikTok on Child Account Vulnerabilities

The European Commission has issued a warning to TikTok for failing to adequately protect children's privacy rights on its platform. The investigation revealed that adults can access the accounts of minors aged 13-15, exposing them to cyberbullying, predatory behavior, and unwanted contact. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier emphasized that children's content must never be visible to strangers, and TikTok's failure to comply with the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) could result in fines of up to 6% of its annual revenue. The Commission estimates that most of TikTok's 170 million EU users are children, with 7% of 12-15-year-olds spending four to five hours daily on the app. TikTok has pledged to review Brussels' findings and engage constructively with the Commission.
