İş Bank Posts Q2 2026 Net Profit 26% Below Market Forecast
İş Bankası, 2026’nın ikinci çeyreğinde **9,6 milyar TL** net kâr açıklayarak piyasa beklentisinin %26 altında kaldı. ## Kârın Gölgesindeki Marj Savaş
İş Bank, posted a TL 9.6 billion net profit for Q2 2026, falling 26% short of market expectations.
Margin Battles in the Shadow of Profit
The net profit contraction of 44% YoY and 53% QoQ coincides with the net interest margin dropping from 3.8% to 2.1%. Gross interest income stood at TL 253.1 billion, while net interest income fell to TL 33.8 billion.
Surprise Surge in Fee‑Based Revenues
Fee‑related income jumped 19% QoQ to TL 45.2 billion, delivering a 39% annual growth and underscoring the bank’s resilient service‑driven revenue strategy.
Credit‑Deposit Gap Tightening and Swap Shock
A narrowing credit‑deposit spread amplified interest‑income volatility, while swap costs surged 62%, further eroding the net interest margin.
Forward Outlook and Strategic Revisions
The bank now expects credit growth to hover around the mid‑30% range, while revising net interest margin guidance to 3.2‑3.4%. Return on equity slipped to 13.8%, down from 18.6% at year‑end 2025.
Zeynep Turan’s Analysis: The sharp profit dip at İş Bank is largely explained by the dramatic erosion of the net interest margin and the surge in swap costs. Strong fee‑based earnings confirm the bank’s pivot toward a service‑centric model, yet this alone cannot offset the margin pressure. Consumer loan and mortgage rate stresses will further tighten the credit‑deposit spread, raising the likelihood of stricter credit‑card limits and tougher new mortgage terms. Investors should monitor potential policy rate cuts by the central bank and any improvements in swap‑risk management as key catalysts for a margin recovery.
