The Bank of England (BoE) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) kept the policy interest rate at 3.75%. Six members voted to maintain the rate, while three favored a rise to 4%. BoE Governor Andrew Bailey noted that inflation had fallen faster than expected, but the war in the Middle East continued to keep energy prices high and volatile. The committee acknowledged that high energy prices could accelerate inflation in the coming months. The BoE emphasized that the necessary policy stance to reach the 2% inflation target would depend on the Middle East developments.
The BoE's decision has raised inflation risks, while expectations of a looser labor market due to the energy crisis could influence financial markets in the short term.
