Inspection of Packaged Water Prices: Ministry of Trade's Steps Against Unfair Price Increases

Following the increase in DEKAB by the Turkish Environment Agency to 1.5 lira as of July 1, regardless of the size and material of the packaging, the Ministry of Trade launched inspections across Turkey targeting producers, suppliers, and retailers. The teams applied administrative actions against businesses found to have unfairly increased prices under the pretext of the DEKAB update. During inspections in Istanbul, Istanbul Trade Provincial Director İsmail Menteşe stated that some businesses were found to have unfairly reflected the DEKAB increase in their sales prices. Menteşe mentioned that approximately 100 businesses were inspected in Istanbul, and the detected irregularities were referred to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board. He emphasized that administrative penalties ranging from 180,000 lira to 1,800,000 lira could be applied for each case of unfair price increase.
