Yield Map of 1 Million TL: Liquidity Race Intensifies in Deposit Rates
Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası’nın (TCMB) sıkı para politikası duruşunu korumasıyla birlikte, bankaların TL mevduat çekme yarışı bireysel yatırımcı

As the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) maintains its tight monetary policy stance, the race among banks to attract TRY deposits continues to open up a critical return gateway for individual investors. While the monthly net return on savings around the 1 million TL threshold is shaped by banks' funding costs and liquidity needs, the yield gap between public and private banks forces depositors into active portfolio management.
The Interest Rate Gap Between Public and Private Sectors Widens
As liquidity management strategies in the banking sector diverge, public banks maintain a more cautious stance, while private and digital banking channels keep their appetite for deposit collection high. Current data reveals that the net returns offered by a principal of 1 million TL at the end of a 32-day maturity vary significantly from bank to bank:
Wealth Management Strategies in the Face of Inflation
This volatility in deposit rates remains the primary choice especially for retail investors seeking risk-free returns. However, the gradual reduction of withholding tax advantages and rigidity in inflation expectations require depositors to focus not only on nominal returns but also on real return ratios. The relatively higher rates offered by digital channels (such as Enpara) stand out as a clear reflection of the strategy to pass the operational cost advantages of branchless banking onto the customer.
In this conjuncture where the Central Bank keeps funding costs high, deposit rates still serve as the strongest "safe haven" for individual investors. However, these rates, ranging between 35 percent and 39 percent, may not be sufficient on their own for long-term wealth preservation when withholding tax regulations and inflation dynamics are factored in. I recommend that depositors maintain flexibility with short-term 32-day maturities to accommodate liquidity needs, while closely monitoring the premium rates offered by digital banking channels.
