Diverging Inflation Narratives: Markets Rise, Households Retreat
Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası (TCMB) tarafından yayınlanan Temmuz ayı verileri, enflasyon algısında finansal piyasalar ile reel ekonomi ve hanehal

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's (CBRT) July data reveals a deepening divergence in inflation perception between financial markets and the real economy. While market participants maintain a degree of caution in their pricing, the real sector and citizens are signaling that their fears regarding future inflation are subsiding.
The Widening Gap Between Wall Street and Main Street
Comprehensive studies conducted in collaboration with the Market Participants Survey, Business Tendency Survey, and the Turkish Statistical Institute demonstrate opposing movements in 12-month-ahead annual consumer inflation expectations across different sectors. Key figures from the July data include:
Rising Household Belief in Price Reductions
The increase in the proportion of households expecting inflation to fall in the next 12 months supports the improvement in consumer confidence. In June, market expectations stood at 23.81%, the real sector at 33.10%, and households at 46.13%. By July, the optimism indicator among households shaped up as follows:
From a portfolio management perspective, I view this tableau as a potential reshaper of investment strategies. The flat/rising trend in market inflation expectations suggests that bond yields and risk premiums in Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) models may remain elevated in the short term. Conversely, the decline in expectations among households and the real sector could be interpreted as early signals of a softening in demand and a potential interest rate cut cycle. For dividend-focused companies, the easing of inflationary pressures may lead to margin improvements and increased sustainability of cash distributions.
