Americans' $617.20 billion in donations in 2025 are becoming untraceable. Giving USA data reveals that individual donations account for 64% of the total, with funds often controlled by opaque entities. Washington is responding with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's new regulatory package. Starting with the 2026 tax year, standard deduction filers can deduct up to $1,000, while joint filers can claim $2,000. However, couples earning over $300,000 will receive no deduction for the first $1,500. This change targets the 86% of filers expected to skip itemizing.
While the reform aims to increase transparency in individual donations, critics argue that it fails to hold organizations accountable. The market's reaction remains uncertain.
