TKDK: Cold Storage Facilities Boost Food Security and Export Potential

The Chairman of the Turkish State Hydraulic Works (TKDK), Antalyalı, highlighted that the country-wide cold storage facilities have strengthened food supply security and increased export potential. With 633 facilities totaling 4.1 million cubic meters, post-harvest losses have been reduced by up to 30%, and product shelf life extended to 12 months. Antalyalı noted that 'in Mersin, 113, Isparta, 73, and Bursa, 49 facilities respectively, supporting farmers within a 200-kilometer radius across 44 provinces, enabling all farmers to sell their products at fair prices.' Atmospheric pressure storage units control oxygen, carbon dioxide, and humidity levels, preserving the freshness, nutritional value, and aroma of fruits and vegetables. TKDK has disbursed 9.8 billion Turkish liras in grants and made approximately 25 billion liras in investments. Antalyalı emphasized that 'we will provide higher credit opportunities to our citizens,' and that the organization is working with the World Bank to develop financial solutions. These investments enhance Turkey's food supply security and competitive edge in international markets, ensuring citizens access to high-quality, safe products. Future support for agricultural processing and marketing sectors will continue.
