Olive Oil Harvest Forecasts: Industry Uncertainty Looms Over Turkey and Mediterranean Nations

Fikret Akova, President of the Turkish Olive Oil and Olive Growers Association, has cast doubt on early-season predictions for Turkey's 2026/2027 olive oil harvest. Akova criticized the June projections of high yields, emphasizing that they were based solely on current flowering and fruit development, without accounting for critical climate factors. Reports of reduced yields in the Aegean region and insufficient pollination due to rainfall during flowering were highlighted. Akova stressed that harvest assessments will be conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in September, and production planning will follow these findings. He also noted similar climate risks in Mediterranean countries like Spain, Italy, and Greece. These uncertainties could negatively impact olive oil prices and delay harvest decisions by producers.
