CBRT Greenlights Central Registry Agency's Crypto Custody Infrastructure
Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası (TCMB), finansal teknolojiler ve dijital varlık ekosisteminde yeni bir dönemi başlatacak kritik bir karara imza atar

In a landmark decision that bridges traditional financial architecture with decentralized finance, the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) has officially approved the operation of the Crypto Asset Central Registry System (KVMKS) under the Central Registry Agency (MKK). This regulatory milestone marks a pivotal shift toward institutionalizing the digital asset ecosystem in Türkiye.
Institutional Trust Meets the Digital Asset Frontier
With the CBRT's official approval, a state-backed custody and registry institution enters the digital asset domain to mitigate systemic and operational risks. As the central depository of Turkish capital markets, MKK will now leverage its robust infrastructure to track ownership and ensure the integrity of crypto asset holdings.
A New Era of Custody Competition in the Banking Sector
This regulatory greenlight paves the way for traditional commercial banks to offer institutional-grade custody services, unlocking new fee-income streams. Bringing digital payment systems and blockchain-based settlement processes into a regulated framework is expected to accelerate the inflow of institutional capital into the domestic digital asset ecosystem.
From my perspective as a Fintech and Banking Director, this approval is the most concrete step yet in leveraging Türkiye's robust banking infrastructure for the digital asset era. Incorporating MKK not only paves the way for commercial banks to offer custody services but also introduces a sophisticated layer of liquidity and collateral management affecting Capital Adequacy Ratios (CAR). Digital payment innovations will now scale rapidly on a highly regulated, secure foundation, creating alternative non-interest income channels that could buffer Net Interest Margin (NIM) pressures.
