Data War in Insurance Sector: TSB Warning on Location Sharing
Türkiye sigorta ekosisteminde hasar yönetim süreçlerine dair kritik bir regülasyon tartışması başlarken, dolandırıcılık önleme mekanizmaları ile tüket
A critical regulatory debate regarding claims management processes has ignited within the Turkish insurance ecosystem, as the balance between fraud prevention mechanisms and consumer rights is redrawn by the latest clarification from the Insurance Association of Turkey (TSB). It has emerged that certain insurance companies, aiming to expedite damage assessment and verification processes in material damage traffic accidents, have requested accident victims to send their real-time location via WhatsApp at the scene; however, the legal basis and mandatory nature of this request have been unequivocally rejected by the sector representative.
The Conflict Between Operational Efficiency and Data Mining
Insurance companies are aggressively adopting data-driven approaches to minimize fraud ratios in claim files and calculate risk premiums accurately.
TSB's Regulatory Clarity
To prevent the imposition of non-mandatory requests on policyholders, the Association has taken a concrete stance on the issue.
From a data science perspective, location intelligence is a high-value variable in predictive modeling for claims fraud; however, elevating data requests to mandatory status without contractual basis introduces regulatory volatility and can create a negative correlation with customer loyalty. The sector must navigate the trade-off between enhancing algorithmic accuracy and maintaining consumer trust through compliant operational frameworks.
