FIFA's World Cup Sale Plan: Is Football's 'Soul' Up for Grabs?
Uefa, FIFA'nın Dünya Kupası haklarını özel yatırımcıya satmayı planladığını eleştirerek, 'futbolun ruhunu satmaya çalıştıklarını' iddia etti. FIFA'nın

Uefa has accused FIFA of attempting to sell the World Cup rights to private investors, calling it 'using our sport to enrich themselves and their friends'. FIFA has given its 211 member associations until 19 September to apply for an initial $20m (£15m) payment from the proceeds of its plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. This move has been condemned by European football's top bodies, with Uefa stating that FIFA 'cannot continue to use our sport to enrich themselves'. FIFA's partnership with JP Morgan to set up Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) aims to raise up to $4.2bn by selling off World Cup rights to private investors. This plan could push FIFA to expand the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams and stage it more frequently. Uefa has labeled FIFA's plan as an 'attack on football', with the German FA's former president Hans-Joachim Watzke stating that 'many in European football see this as an outright assault'. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has also criticized the plan, calling the World Cup 'not a product but the greatest competition in world sport'. These developments have sparked significant divisions within the football world. Uefa has condemned FIFA's plan, stating that 'the soul and governance of football are not assets to trade' and that 'everyone who cares about the future of the game should be concerned'.
Markets are likely to reflect concerns about FIFA's governance issues and the disruptive impact on football's financial model, particularly in commodities and forex markets where the value of football's financial assets is under scrutiny.
