UK Inflation Drops to 2.6%, Boosting Andy Burnham’s Cost-of-Living Plans
Birinci ayda beklenen 2.7% yerine UK enflasyonu 2.6% olarak raporlandı, bu da Andy Burnham'ın maliye politikalarına olumlu bir işaret. Haziran CPI ver

UK inflation fell to 2.6% in June, exceeding forecasts of a 2.7% decline, providing a boost for Andy Burnham’s cost-of-living initiatives. The June CPI report showed a drop in fuel prices, particularly diesel, alongside reductions in clothing, transport, and food costs, though factory output costs saw a slight uptick. However, rising tensions in the Middle East pushed Brent crude prices back above $90, raising concerns about inflation worsening in the second half of the year. New Chancellor John Healey hailed the price growth decline as 'news families want to hear' and announced a winter VAT cut on electricity bills and a £2 cap on bus fares from January. Labour’s Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride blamed the government for keeping inflation above the Bank of England’s 2% target. MHA’s economic advisor Joe Nellis noted inflation remains far below IMF forecasts, while Niesr warned that a 13% rise in the energy price cap from July and escalating Iran tensions could push inflation higher in the second half. Concerns over the Bank of England raising interest rates persist due to inflation staying above target.
The UK’s inflation decline, while temporary, underscores the delicate balance between easing cost pressures and avoiding overheating risks, particularly with global energy markets still volatile.
