Vacation Rental Scams: Consumer Rights and Legal Warnings

The surge in vacation rental demand has brought to light rampant scams, deposit frauds, and lease disputes. Ali Güvenç Kiraz, head of the Real Estate Law Association, emphasized that consumers must verify whether rentals listed as short-term are indeed permitted. Kiraz stressed that - The rental agreement must clearly outline the duration, number of guests, payment terms, and additional expenses like utilities.

■Photos and videos should be taken upon delivery to document any discrepancies. ■Consumers can recover up to 186,000 TL through consumer mediation boards.
