Wall Street's Private Blockchain Obsession: A Race to the Bottom?
Wall Street'in finansal altyapısını yeniden inşa etmek için gösterdiği merkezi ve izne tabı blockchain ağlarına duyduğu tutku, sektörün önde gelen Eth

Wall Street's fervent push towards centrally controlled, permission-only blockchain networks has been sharply criticized by Ethereum advocate Raman, who labels this institutional obsession as a dangerous "race to the bottom." While major financial institutions argue that private networks offer necessary security and control, intensifying debates suggest that bypassing the transparent, open nature of public blockchains might fundamentally undermine the technology's potential to revolutionize the global financial infrastructure.
The Friction Between Institutional Control and Decentralization
Traditional financial giants are increasingly gravitating towards "walled gardens" to mitigate volatility and ensure compliance, yet this strategy risks stripping the technology of its core value proposition and creating market fragmentation.
The Imperative for an Open Base Layer
Despite the critique, there is an acknowledgment that private networks have utility, provided they do not exist in a vacuum completely detached from public infrastructure. Without an open foundation, the resilience of the financial system remains questionable.
From a regulatory and compliance standpoint, the divergence between public ethos and private implementation is creating a complex landscape. While SEC scrutiny often drives institutions towards privacy, the lack of transparency in private blockchains poses significant challenges for systemic risk monitoring. As a Compliance Director, I believe that the future lies in hybrid models where private efficiency meets public verifiability; without the latter, we are simply building faster, more opaque silos rather than a resilient financial ecosystem.
