Japon Yeni, üst üste üçüncü işlem gününde de değer kazanarak, Tokyo ve Washington yönetimlerinin geçen hafta döviz piyasalarına gerçekleştirdiği ortak
The Japanese yen rallied for a third consecutive session, keeping traders on high alert for further intervention after Tokyo and Washington stepped into the foreign exchange market last week to support Japan's currency. Markets are adjusting to a drop in oil prices of more than $4 a barrel after U.S. President Donald Trump held back from a fresh attack on Iran, undermining support for the safe-haven greenback.
Tokyo and Washington's Coordinated Power Play
Japan's finance ministry confirmed it had engaged in joint yen-buying intervention with the U.S. on Friday, signaling that authorities will not hesitate to take further action. This aggressive move comes after years of pressure on the yen, undermined by the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) gradual approach to monetary policy tightening.Dollar Under Pressure Amid Oil Price Shifts
While declining energy prices are expected to weigh heavily on energy importers like the Euro zone and Japan, the U.S. remains relatively insulated from oil shocks. The yen also advanced against the euro and sterling, stirring speculation that Japanese authorities could be active in the market again to stabilize the currency.Short-Term Gains vs. Long-Term Headwinds
Despite the recent surge exceeding 3% over two trading sessions, analysts at Barclays and Goldman Sachs argue that longer-term downward pressures remain in place. Outside of a change in the policy mix or global growth outlook, encouraging repatriation of funds is seen as the most powerful policy for influencing the currency over the long period. From my perspective as Dr. Yaman Ege, viewing this through the lens of the semiconductor supply chain, this artificial, policy-driven support for the Japanese yen sends a critical stability signal for production capacities. TSMC's Kumamoto plants and Sony's sensor cost structures are built on delicate balances sensitive to currency volatility. An excessively weak yen skyrockets the cost of imported lithography machines (ASML) and rare earth elements, while a sudden strengthening compresses the profit margins of export-oriented tech giants. However, this coordinated intervention demonstrates that the US-Japan technology alliance is unified not just militarily, but monetarily as well, strengthening the financial front in the chip war against China.
