Arıkan and Babacan's TDK Nomination: 'Operation' and 'Transfer' Reflect Political System's Collapse

Saadet Partisi Genel Başkanı Mahmut Arıkan and DEVA Partisi Genel Başkanı Ali Babacan proposed 'operation' and 'transfer' as the words of the year to the Turkish Language Institute during an Istanbul picnic. Arıkan criticized that operations are only targeting opposition, calling them a 'projector' used by the government against rivals. He noted that 'the dollar rose from 8 to 18 Turkish liras, making thousands of people millionaires' and lamented that 'no investigation has been launched into the 60 billion dollar Kur Korumalı Mevduat scandal'. Arıkan also accused the government of '24 years of mismanagement', saying 'this much trash was accumulated during your time in power'. The second proposed word, 'transfer', highlighted rapid political party switches. 'AK Party transfers dominated headlines more than Trabzonspor's signing of Mohamed Salah' he said. Arıkan called for ending 'terror in the people's wallets' and criticized 'interest terror', asking 'what more do you need to end inflation terror?' He also questioned the 'rent terror' and 'oppression against opponents' system.
